CD Baby Review!
CD Baby Review!Reviewer: Tamara Turner, CD Baby
Exasperated to the point of inspiration by the mainstream trends of Puerto Rican rock, 'El 8vo Día' is wiping clean the slate of what is typically thought of as "rock en español," especially for our catalog. Diving deep into classical grunge, milking it for all it's worth and then scraping the bottom with a sharp industrial knife, their music still falls between genres, bringing to mind acts like Smashing Pumpkins, early U2 and Nine Inch Nails.Even while their sound has a tense quality of desperation, passion and urgency, it isn't without substance and subtlety. It's not the sort of frenzied, loud, guitar-bashing rock that seems to be coming out of the woodwork these days. This group grounds all that electricity with the magnetism of thoughtfulness and intent in their writing. These aren't songs built from surface level emotions, the disposable "blip on the radar" type. These are songs rooted strongly in sincere convictions and with a real purpose of rocking the boat of expectations.
